Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s husband, Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa, successfully climbed Mt Everest

Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa, the husband of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa (National Hero of Nepal), reached the summit of Mount Everest at 7:30 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. He holds the record for successfully climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents. The 64-year-old Sherpa was born in Pangom Ward No. 1 of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu.

He climbed Mount Everest 30 years after his wife Pasang Lhamu set the record by kissing the peak of Mount Everest. Pasang Lhamu became the first female climber from Nepal to conquer Mount Everest.

At that time, her husband Sonam joined her on the expedition. However, he could not go above Camp 2. Pasang Lhamu Sherpa passed away on the same day while returning to the base camp after completing the climb.

Lakpa Sonam Sherpa left for Mt. Everest from Kathmandu on April 17 to climb Everest. Along with Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa, Zangbu Sherpa, Pemtengi Sherpa, Pemba Sherpa, and Robert Morachini from France have also completed the climb successfully.

Lakpa Sonam Sherpa Conquers Seven Summits

Along with climbing Everest, Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa has successfully climbed all the highest mountains of the seven continents of the world and completed the Seven Summits. Climbing the seven peaks of the world’s seven continents is known as the Seven Summits.

Earlier, Sherpas had successfully climbed the peaks of six continents. He climbed Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m) on January 11, 2016, Europe’s Mount Elbrus (5,642m) on August 25, 2016, Oceania’s Mount Puncock/Mount Karstenz (4,884m) on November 15, 2016, July he climbed Denali (6,195 m) in North America on 07, 2017, Mount Vinson (4,897 m) in Antarctica on December 14, 2017 and Aconwagua (6,961 m) in South America on January 24, 2022.

Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa, who has been involved in Nepal’s tourism business for nearly 50 years, has led more than 8,000 climbers to climb various mountains in Nepal.
