Nepal Attracts More Than 400,000 Tourists Within Five Months

Nepal, a captivating destination in the lap of the Himalayas, has experienced a remarkable influx of tourism, welcoming a staggering more than 400,000 tourists within just five months.

Nepal welcomes 404,231 tourists in the first five months of 2023, aiming to attract one million visitors in the upcoming financial year (FY) 2080/81. To achieve this ambitious goal, Nepal expects the arrival of 600,000 tourists within the next seven months.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, tourist arrivals have shown promising signs of recovery, reaching a level similar to the pre-Covid-19 period.

In May 2023, the majority of tourists visiting Nepal were from India, with a total of 36,575 Indian tourists. The United States ranked second, with 8,545 tourists arriving from America. China secured the third position, with 4,667 Chinese tourists visiting Nepal during the same period.

The number of tourists visiting Nepal differed each month, as illustrated below:

  • January: 55,074 tourists
  • February: 73,255 tourists
  • March: 99,426 tourists
  • April: 98,773 tourists
  • May: 77,703 tourists
