Trekking Guide & Porter wages Rise in Nepal after 5 years

According to the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), there has been an increase in the wages of tourism workers. On Tuesday, TAAN issued a press release stating that the enhanced wages would take effect from 17 July , 2023 .

TAAN has reported that tourism workers’ wages have increased this year, marking the first increment in five years. Previously, the salary of tourism workers was raised in November 2018.

How much does a Trekking Guide/Leader earn in Nepal?

Under the new wage rate, tourism workers employed as guides will receive a daily payment of 3,100 ((Approx. US$ 23) rupees.

Previously, the daily wage for a guide trekking in the Annapurna region was 2100 Nepalese Rupees (Approx. US$ 16). Similarly, the daily wage for a guide trekking in the Everest Region was 2268 Nepalese Rupees (Approx US$ 17).

How much does a Trekking assistant guide earn in Nepal?

The daily wages for assistant guides have now reached 2800 Nepalese Rupees (Approx. US$ 21).

Previously, the wages for an assistant guide in the Annapurna region was 2,016 Nepalese Rupees (Approx. US$ 15) per day. While for the Everest region, it was 2,100 Nepalese Rupees (Approx US$ 16) per day.

Wages of a trekking porter in Nepal

The wages of a porter (support worker/laborer) have now reached 2400 Nepalese Rupees per day (Approx. US$ 18).

Previously, trekking porters’ wages for the Annapurna region was 1,932 (Approx. US$ 14) Nepalese Rupees per day. Similarly, wages for the Everest region was 2,100 Nepalese rupees (Approx US$ 16) per day.

According to data provided by TAAN, over three thousand trekking agencies are operating nationwide. These agencies collectively offer direct employment to more than 20,000 persons.
